Elizabeth City serves as the county seat of Pasquotank County, but with three institutes of higher learning, the busiest Coast Guard air station in the country, and a regional medical center, this strategically located metropolis is also the hub city of northeastern North Carolina and bustles with life as a result. The city offers a host of things to do and see on any given day, not the least of which is multiple buildings on the National Register of Historic Places; a walk around historic downtown showcases many fine examples of antebellum architecture. There are museums, galleries, theaters, and a science center, and shopping options are abundant, particularly for those interested in antiquing. The local colleges regularly host various cultural events, from symphonies to the ballet and beyond, and of course cheering on the school’s athletic teams is also a local pastime.
Elizabeth City - Wonderful climate and lifestyle
The mild climate most of the year also draws the city’s residents outside to enjoy the beauty of the area. In addition to the wide array of boating and fishing options, residents can visit one of the many parks in the area to picnic, hike or camp. Golf, tennis, and even various motorsports are also an option, as are sports leagues for both children and adults. Another plus to Elizabeth City’s location is its proximity to the Outer Banks. Hundreds of miles of sandy beaches bordering the Atlantic Ocean are only a short drive (or sail) away from Elizabeth City, giving residents even more recreation options to choose from. Norfolk International Airport is also within a reasonable drive and provides a jumping-off point to anywhere in the world—but if you have a passion for flying your own airplanes, Elizabeth City boasts a regional airfield (shared with the Coast Guard) that can serve as your base of operations.
